Júlio Alonso

Júlio Alonso, black clay potter. His work differed from that of other potters in the region due to the production of pieces in black clay, which in recent decades has practically disappeared from the Barcelos area. Baked with wood, and after dried pine branches give the pieces their smoke and black color. Where representation can help the process.

The quote is from Júlio Alonso and says “Quem molda o barro negro nas mãos Molda a tradição e o coração.” which means “Whoever shapes the black clay in their hands Shapes the tradition and the heart.”

In The BOX is project organised by Casa da Juventude. The aim is to “involve young people in the creation of new projects that enhance their appreciation and capabilities”.
