Peace Street Paris Olympics Mural

15 Bis Rue La Paix (“Peace Street”), 94250 Gentilly.

By Kyle Holbrook and Paris-based Morne.

Kyle Holbrook, who exclusively uses brushes, will work alongside Parisian Artist “Morne” (@morne_dmjc), who specializes in spray paint. Together, they will create a 50-foot-long mural that blends their distinct styles.

The “Peace Mural” in Gentilly, designed by Kyle Holbrook, is a powerful and thought-provoking artwork that addresses themes of conflict, peace, and environmental conservation. At its center is a striking hand symbol adorned with images of Sudanese protesters, highlighting their struggle for peace in a country plagued by violence and often overlooked on the national stage. Among the most poignant elements is the depiction of child soldiers, emphasizing the tragedy of children forced into warfare. One child is shown holding a large gun that cleverly uses the 3-D elements of the wall's architecture, with the gun extending outward.

Incorporating nature into the mural, Holbrook includes images of flowers, a seal, and a jellyfish—species that are becoming extinct. These elements symbolize the potential extinction of humanity if we fail to work together for peace and environmental sustainability. The artwork underscores the interconnectedness of all things, illustrating how war and environmental neglect threaten the Earth's future.

During the Olympics, the mural's intent is further emphasized with the depiction of two hands shaking—one in the colors of the Palestinian flag and the other in the colors of the Israeli flag. This symbolizes the hope for collaboration and peace between these nations. Additional flags of Russia and Ukraine flank a central peace symbol, further advocating for global harmony.

The mural also features the phrase "Free Paul Watson," drawing attention to the recent arrest of Paul Franklin Watson, a Canadian-American environmentalist and founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. This inclusion highlights Watson's efforts in marine conservation and the importance of activism in protecting our planet.
