La Arracada de Aliseda: A Nod to Aliseda's Rich History
The mural pays homage to a gold earring, a pendant from the renowned Tartessian treasure discovered in Aliseda. This treasure is not only a symbol of the town but also one of the most significant archaeological finds in Extremadura.
The discovery dates back to 1920, when the Rodríguez brothers accidentally unearthed over 354 pieces, primarily gold, alongside some silver.
While the original treasure is housed in the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid, a replica is on display at the Treasure Interpretation Centre in Aliseda. Thanks to Sojo's mural, part of this extraordinary heritage is now celebrated in public art.
The artwork adorns the façade of 1 Antonio Machado Street, brought to life through the Muro Crítico project, an initiative by the Cáceres Provincial Council.
Muro Crítico is an urban art program that fosters dialogue, promotes art, and raises awareness about the rural environment. Through Sojo's mural, this initiative brings the legacy of the Tartessian treasure into the streets, blending history with contemporary expression.
