United by Waves

De muurschildering die te zien is op de afbeelding, gelegen aan de kade van de Minervahaven, is een indrukwekkend kunstwerk dat het thema "United by Waves" verbeeldt. Deze muurschildering is gemaakt door het Berlijnse collectief Innerfields en gerealiseerd door Writer's Block Murals in aanloop naar SAIL Amsterdam 2025, ter viering van het 50-jarig jubileum van SAIL en de 750ste verjaardag van Amsterdam.

Het kunstwerk toont een jongen die een zeilboot naar een oude zeeman blaast. Dit beeld staat symbool voor de verbinding tussen generaties en het doorgeven van kennis. De jongen representeert de jeugd en de toekomst, terwijl de oude zeeman staat voor ervaring en het verleden. Samen symboliseren ze de overgang van het verleden naar de toekomst, waarbij de zeilboot de gezamenlijke reis en verantwoordelijkheid voor de toekomst benadrukt. Onder het wateroppervlak zijn zeedieren zichtbaar, wat waarschijnlijk de diepe verbondenheid met de oceaan en de natuur symboliseert, passend bij het nautische thema van SAIL.
