Frog´s Dream (yokai Tomoe)

Description

The fisher frog who arrived in Mexico many years ago found great inspiration in Lake Chapala for his block prints. Some days, while engraving by the lake, he would watch the fishermen and wonder why they could only catch small fish called "charales." Why don’t they try harder? he thought. Why don’t they go after a big yokai fish?

One day, Oniko borrowed a boat and went fishing alone, determined to catch a truly big fish. He had spent almost the entire day without catching anything. Just as he was about to surrender, with the sun beginning to set behind the Chupinaya mountains, he noticed movement in the water. He cast his net—and couldn’t believe his eyes. Without even struggling, a great yokai appeared in his net. Her name was Tomoe.
