From a hand reaching up towards the sky, a regent honeyeater stands singing, driven by the fragmentation and removal of their habitat. The artwork's fine balance and beauty of nature aims to create a memory worth saving and supporting.
A bird perches on a hand and sings her song to the sky. She is a regent honeyeater - a critically endangered bird that was once found in Adelaide but after the loss, fragmentation and degradation of their habitat has been forced east.
In memory of once was here, Crystallize / Fracture is a piece that brings brings our attention to the quiet extinction of this beauty, it literally crystallizes a moment we can't get back. As we sit on the edge of the Anthropocene we need to widen our vision & consider what we have, what we have lost and what can be saved and supported.
We are as firmly embedded in nature as nature is inside of all of us.
