Protective Pack

For WeAart 2016.

"Inspired by local folklore, I drew from the legend of Holgar Denske for this piece.  As the legend goes, the Viking Knight sits in wait at his tomb for the day the Danish people need him again. He will then rise, defying the cloak of death to protect the people. Here he is flanked by ghost like figures of Viking warriors. Cutting the design in half, I also painted a radiating mesh of wolves that move from a prowl to a howl along the surface of the wall. Wolves historically have been part of the Danish culture and environment but over the last 200 years, very little have been seen of them until recently. Just in the last couple years, sightings have taken place that they are re-colonizing the northern parts of Denmark. Utilizing these stories, themes of resurgence, protection and conservation both of the environment and of culture emerge."
