Pearl Well Mural

Mural depicting Zaida, daughter of Filibús, and the Legend of the Pearl Well.

The mural reflects a story similar to Romeo and Juliet:

In the late 16th century, a man named Filibus—a Moor originally from Granada's Alpujarra region—lived in the 'Toledillo' area of Quintanar de la Orden. He had a beautiful daughter named Zaida. At the same time, a noble Christian knight from the town fell madly in love with her, and she with him. They held clandestine meetings at the well, as their families strictly disapproved of their love. They faced many obstacles, divided by both social class and faith.

When the knight left to fight in the Flanders War, Zaida was left heartbroken. Faced with his absence and her family’s rejection, she would go to the well every day to weep. Legend has it that her tears turned into pearls as they fell into the water. Since then, it has been known as the Pozo de la Perla (Pearl Well).
