“Where Memories Graze”
This mural, located in front of the CEIP Federico García Lorca school in El Real de la Jara, portrays a daily scene that captures the soul of the town: a grandfather and his granddaughter walk together as he tells her about the traditional pig slaughter, one of the most deeply rooted customs in the area. At their feet, a herd of Iberian pigs grazes beneath holm oaks, symbolizing the landscape and natural wealth of the region.

The artwork aims to convey the connection between generations, the value of oral memory, and the beauty of preserving traditions with the sensitivity of the present. The grandfather’s clothing and the girl’s backpack—with references to the town and school—anchor the scene in the here and now, reminding us that the future is built upon what we inherit from the past.

En este mural, situado frente al CEIP Federico García Lorca de El Real de la Jara, se representa una escena cotidiana que encierra el alma del pueblo: un abuelo y su nieta caminan juntos mientras él le narra la tradición de la matanza del cerdo, una de las costumbres más arraigadas de la localidad. A sus pies, una piara de cerdos ibéricos pasta bajo las encinas, símbolo del paisaje y la riqueza natural de la zona.

La obra busca transmitir la conexión entre generaciones, el valor de la memoria oral y la belleza de conservar las tradiciones sin perder la sensibilidad del presente. El atuendo del abuelo y la mochila de la niña, con referencias al pueblo y al colegio, anclan la escena en el aquí y ahora, recordando que el futuro se construye con lo que heredamos del pasado.
