Paper planes

‘’ Paper Planes ‘’ - painted for @handicapinternational_de

This mural was created for Handicap International’s Stop Bombing Civilians initiative — a powerful campaign raising awareness about the devastating impact of explosive weapons on civilians, especially children, in populated areas.

A young girl stands amid the ruins of what was once home or school. She is both a survivor and witness, embodying the countless children born into conflict, who inherit war without a voice, without a choice.

bombs, planes, flowers, and a helmet all folded from paper, the fragile material of childhood. Once symbols of play, learning, and imagination, these paper forms now carry the weight of violence. The paper planes that once soared in classrooms now fly by as reminders of fear. The simple act of folding, once an innocent craft now becomes a quiet tragedy of what war takes away.

From the concrete rubble, paper flowers rise giving hope and resiliance. They speak of life’s fragility and of innocence stripped too soon.

This work asks us to pause and see beyond the distant noise of conflict, and to recognize the small, human stories that unfold in its shadow.
