Garabatos Morato

Comercio Ultramarino

Description

Immerse yourself in the spirit of a vibrant marketplace through the magical airbrush work of Garabatos Morato in his captivating mural “Comercio Ultramarino" (Grocery Stores). This artist from Aranda, a master of airbrushing, has transformed a fruit shop into a detailed and lively work of art in Maestro Nebreda Square.

The mural captures the variety and freshness of fruit and vegetables with such precision that you can almost taste them. Every detail, from the juicy apples to the vibrant peppers, is rendered with great skill, turning the wall into a permanent corner of the market.

But there is more to this visual story. Between the two shops depicted — including the shop selling wicker goods and local specialty products — Morato has created a unique street perspective, where the curious little dog Neska makes an appearance: Neska belonged to Nieves, the former owner of Frutos Secos Ani. She wandered over while Morato was working on the mural, and he decided to include her in the piece.

Morato has also added messages that give the mural an extra layer of meaning. A sign in the fruit shop reads: “El pequeño comercio es la vida de tu barrio" (Small businesses are the life of your neighbourhood), reminding us of the importance of supporting local shops. Another proudly announces: “Tenemos cerezas de Covarrubias" (We have cherries from Covarrubias), paying tribute to the area’s legendary cherries. And, as a nod to the local music scene, a third poster advertises a concert featuring the well-known rock bands from Aranda: "Los Northon", "Zirrosis" and "Sateli-3".

Strategically located alongside other murals in Plaza Maestro Nebreda, the artwork adds to the colourful artistic tapestry that shapes the visual identity of Aranda de Duero.
