Desde el 2021 la fachada del edificio II del colegio de Santa Catalina alberga una llamativa ilustración que parece reflejar la interculturalidad que desde hace muchos años caracteriza a este centro educativo.

Al primer vistazo nadie dudaría de que es obra de Nano Arribas Lázaro, que estudió en su día en estas aulas y hoy es uno de los muralistas más prolíficos de Castilla y León.

Dos niños de rasgos raciales muy diferentes descansan amigables y plácidamente, usando como modelo a sus dos hijas, la obra ofrece una ilustración de dos niños sentados sobre el lomo de un dragón. que no parece representar ningún peligro.

El autor dice que sobre todo lo que ha querido representar es la amistad desde la mirada pura de los que no han tenido tiempo aún de mancharla con prejuicios sociales. “Este mural trata sobre todo de la amistad llevada al rasgo más puro, sin límites, donde no hay condiciones, no hay sesgos, una amistad que está sentada sobre un dragón que es algo muy de fábula pero tiene mucho de metáfora en el sentido del recelo que pueden ver otros”, explica. Es un mural grande en tamaño y grande también porque refleja la interculturalidad del barrio de Santa Catalina de Aranda, lugar donde familias de distintos países y culturas se habitan en el municipio, su colegio sigue en esa línea y se ha convertido en un fiel reflejo de que la interculturalidad no está reñida con la amistad, como así se ha venido demostrando en el centro desde hace muchos años.

Two children with very different ethnic features rest together in a peaceful and friendly way. Using his two daughters as models, the artist created an image of two children sitting on the back of a dragon that does not seem threatening at all.

The artist explains that, above all, he wanted to portray friendship through the pure gaze of those who have not yet had time to stain it with social prejudice. “This mural is mainly about friendship in its purest form, without limits, without conditions, without biases , a friendship sitting on a dragon, something drawn from fable, but also a strong metaphor for the suspicion that others may feel,” he says. It is a mural that is impressive not only in size, but also in what it represents: the intercultural reality of Santa Catalina, a neighbourhood in Aranda de Duero where families from different countries and cultures live side by side. The school follows that same spirit and has become a clear reflection of the fact that interculturality is perfectly compatible with friendship, something that has been evident at the school for many years.
