Aranda de Duero 1503
Description
El mural, realizado por Garabatos Morato, recrea la elaboración del plano de Aranda de Duero de 1503, considerado el plano de perspectiva cenital más antiguo de España y conservado actualmente en el Archivo de Simancas (Valladolid). La pieza es un legajo histórico-artístico de gran importancia e interés, que retrata con gran minuciosidad el trazado urbano de la villa moderna, describiendo sus calles y monumentos. Su trascendencia fue tal, que llegaría a tomarse como referencia urbanística para la construcción de ciudades en América.
La escena principal muestra al artífice trabajando bajo la luz de un candil, en un entorno ambientado con elementos propios de la época, como los arcos góticos y las vidrieras de la iglesia de Santa María la Real. Completan la composición dos representaciones inspiradas en estas vidrieras, que enmarcan las imágenes de la Iglesia de San Juan y el Humilladero.

The mural, created by Garabatos Morato, recreates the making of the map of Aranda de Duero from 1503, considered the oldest bird’s-eye perspective map in Spain and now preserved in the Archive of Simancas (Valladolid). The piece is a historical and artistic document of great importance and interest, portraying the urban layout of the early modern town with remarkable precision, depicting its streets and monuments. Its significance was such that it would later serve as an urban planning reference for the construction of cities in the Americas.
The main scene shows the mapmaker at work by the light of an oil lamp, in a setting enriched with elements typical of the period, such as the Gothic arches and stained-glass windows of the Church of Santa María la Real. The composition is completed by two representations inspired by these stained-glass windows, framing the images of the Church of San Juan and the "Humilladero" (Historical roadside shrine in Aranda de Duero).
