Erik Burke creates place-specific murals under the utilitarian (yet coy name) OU Public Works. Inspired by an upbringing in the Nevada high desert his work seeks to capture light and legacy. Themes of celebration and empowering outliers have taken center stage by magnifying marginalized people, plants, and place. His colorful palette, photo realism, and design focused compositions recover overlooked history while aiming to be a catalyst for stewardship. While the majority of his work can be found along the Sierra Nevada Mountains, he has 250 murals sprinkled across 15 countries such as Ecuador, Ukraine, S. Korea, Norway, and Haiti.
